The actual meaning of Geode means “earthlike” in Greek, and geologists will debate on exactly how they are formed, but they are a wonderful mystery.  Geodes can form in any cavity, but the term is mostly applied to baseball sized round nodules that are very drab on the outside, but have a crystal surprise in the center.
