“This is an artwork I painted a few years ago called Magic Mirror. I often like to include things in the picture to suggest a story. Here the girl looks into the mirror and sees herself reflected with angel wings. Is this mirror a doorway to an alternative world where she is an angel? or perhaps the mirror shows her true nature? or maybe the angel in the mirror is different being? That is the great thing about fantasy, it can be whatever you want it to be. On the ground beside the girl is a key. I painted this as a symbol that something has been unlocked. The mirror itself contains a pentagram star to symbolise magic and skulls to symbolise mortality. The cobwebs at the top suggest that it has been left undisturbed for some time, so perhaps the story here is just beginning.” From Anne stokes
