Maiden, Mother, Crone – Love, Honor, Protect – Father, Son, & Holy Spirit

The Triquetra is an ancient symbol that is used extensively by both pagans and Christians; it has different meanings for different people. A piece of jewelry with the Triquetra symbol is often given in contemporary Ireland to signify love and affection (a promise ring or necklace); the Triquetra also features as a motif on Celtic wedding bands and engagement rings.

Celtic talisman, it symbolizes life, death and rebirth; and the three forces of the universe: earth, water and fire. It represents the triple goddess (maiden, mother, and elder); the equality, eternity and indivisibility. The Whole has three levels: Physical, Mental, and Spiritual. The Circle of the Triquetra represents the eternity, and connects the three levels, joining them in only one. With the conversion to Christianity of the Celtic culture, this symbol acquired the meaning of the Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and as in the Celtic meaning, the circle represents the eternity.

The pentacle has been worn as a powerful protection symbol for thousands of years. Associated in turn with magick, paganism and Christian mysticism, its earliest connections were with worship of the Goddess, from whose sacred five petaled apple blossoms and sees the symbol may have been derived. Like the circle it is considered a protective design because of its continuously connecting points. The pentacle has been called the symbol of man, truth, and completion.
